The Harwich Health Department in conjunction with VNA of Cape Cod will be conducting this year’s public flu clinic on Monday, September 26thth at the Community Center on Oak St. The clinic will be held from 2-6 p.m. and pre-registration is required. Underinsured? No Insurance? WE WANT YOU!! As a community based Public Health Clinic, we are actively seeking those individuals without coverage to take advantage of our low cost service. Other walk-in clinics range from $25-$40. Our fee is $5. Please plan now to attend
Eligibility Criteria for the 2011 Harwich Clinic:
- Open to all Harwich taxpayers and anyone who lives or works in the Town of Harwich
- There is a $5 fee per person unless you are Medicare Part B OR Insurance eligible. You must bring your Medicare Part “B” or Insurance Card and a photo ID card with you.
- Be a minimum of 18 years of age (dosage varies for children-see your physician for vaccination)
- Please wear a short sleeve shirt to the clinic
- Meet one of the CDC guidelines for vaccination
The Centers for Disease Control has issued the following guidelines for 2011-12
- All persons aged 6 months and older should be vaccinated annually. (those under 18 yrs of age should contact their pediatrician)
- At a minimum, the following high risk groups should consider vaccination---
- are aged 50 years and older;
- have chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, neurologic, hematologic, or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus);
- are immuno suppressed (including immuno suppression caused by medications or by human immunodeficiency virus);
- are or will be pregnant during the influenza season;
- are aged 6 months--18 years and receiving long-term aspirin therapy and who therefore might be at risk for experiencing Reye syndrome after influenza virus infection;
- are residents of nursing homes and other chronic-care facilities;
- are American Indians/Alaska Natives;
- are morbidly obese (body-mass index is 40 or greater);
- are health-care personnel;
- are household contacts and caregivers of children aged younger than 5 years and adults aged 50 years and older, with particular emphasis on vaccinating contacts of children aged younger than 6 months; and are household contacts and caregivers of persons with medical conditions that put them at higher risk for severe complications from influenza.
