HARWICH CULTURAL COUNCIL

MEETING MINUTES: Thursday, May 11, 2017

Brooks Free Library, Thornton Room, 739 Main St., Harwich MA 02645

Present: Tina Games, Debbie Ferry, Joan Sacchetti, Rose Ann Clarke, Rosann Donohue, Larraine Bossi

Meeting was called to order by Tina Games, Chair at 4:35PM.

Public Comments and Announcements:

  1. Council membership addition, Courtney West who was appointed two months ago by the Selectmen.  Also Rosanne Shapiro has expressed interest in joining the Council.  Tina will clarify the current open positions with Sandy.

Meeting minutes from April 11th were reviewed and approved.

Current update of the Financial Report was reviewed and approved.

Old Business:

  1. The HCC article for Supplemental Funds of $3,000 was passed at the Town Meeting.
  2. Invitations to the Grant Reception were sent out by mail.  A decision was made to send out invitations for the 2018 reception by e-mail, since all grantees will have applied online.  HCC members will donate desserts and fruit to compliment sandwiches and drinks arranged by Debbie.

New Business:

  1. Grant Reception Agenda will begin with performance by Middle School Choir, directed by Diane Toscano.  Other grantees will be invited to share the story of their grant activity.  We will display the Harwich Cultural Council banner.
  2. HCC Trip Subcommittee: No one has registered for the San Antonio trip to date.  Larraine will ask Lynn S for lists of previous travelers and send trip information out by email.  Dates for a possible Prague-Budapest-Vienna Tour are 4/5, 4/12, 4/26, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31 with ground-only prices ranging from $1899 to $2099.  Athena at AAA needs a date to provide flight costs.  Council members want to put this idea on hold at this time.
  3. Harwich Cultural Council Facebook page - will be launched in June.
  4. 2017 Community Partnerships & Collaboration:  Harwich Middle School site has been proposed as a Cultural Center which would expand performance and meeting space for cultural events. Selectwoman Jannell Brown will be attending our June meeting to tell us more about the vision and to answer our questions.
