MEETING MINUTES  

Monday, May 15^th , 2017   5:30 p.m.   Albro House, Harwich

In attendance:  Sheila House, Julia Eldredge, Brooke Canada, Barbara Segal, Jim Hartley, Paula McGuire

• Meeting called to order at 5:35 p.m.
• Approved minutes of the February meeting. Barbara S. moved, Brooke seconded.
• Introduction of new HYSC member, Paula McGuire, who lives in Harwich and is a retired teacher.
• Old Business

→ SCREENAGERS March 22^nd at 6:00 pm   Amazing turnout, over 200 parents, kids and community members. Have a good email list, for sending a Tech Talk Tuesday Newsletter, finding out what topics parents would like to focus on in smaller groups

→JUNIOR ED CLASSES – Monomoy Middle School unwilling to have students fill out questionnaire for enrichment programs, because they feel they are filling this need adequately with 21+ after school clubs and sports and arts programs. Brooke has connected with other groups that are interested in having a drop-in program from 4-6 pm and will keep us informed

• Youth Risk Behavior Survey 2016- Results were rolled out April 26^th. Areas of concern are (1) texting and driving, (2) drinking and driving, and (3) physical violence in relationships. Sheila has secured funding for the Save A Life Tour, a day-long program that will address #1 and #2. There is a program called Mentors for Violence Prevention already in place that covers #3
• Sheila is working with Angie Chilaka, the Monomoy Wellness Director to create a Harwich Children’s Fund for needy kids who need things like glasses, musical instruments, grocery gift cards, etc. Trying to find a fiduciary agent so we don’t have to form a 501-c3
• Sheila appeared on Channel 18 to review past collaborations and future plans for the Youth Counselor and Harwich Youth Services Committee.
• We discussed the possibility of hosting 4 8^th-9^th grade dances at Pilgrim Church and the Community Center, Kids would choose the organization they wanted to fundraise for.

Next meeting is Monday, June 26^th at 5:30 p.m.  Albro House
