Harwich Cultural Center

Since 2016, it has been known as the Harwich Cultural Center and has offered a professional workspace to creatives of all types - a rare resource on the Cape. The rebranded 204 also serves a critical role as an affordable rental space for community organizations, civic groups, and individuals to engage in cultural, recreational, social, educational, community service, civic and governmental activities. The center is a cooperative effort between the Town and our greatest resource - the creative, local individuals that help to make our town a destination for visitors from around the world. The 204 provides a valuable “launch space” where individuals can actualize their creative gifts and contribute to our local economy. Whether they are engaged in the visual and performing arts, the health and wellness of others, or in the generation of ideas for the town’s future, the building’s occupants and visitors strive to impact town culture in ways that #InspiresHarwich with the #PowerOfCulture.

Several public spaces in the 204 are available for one-time or short-term events, or consecutive class/workshop rentals. 

  • Front Lawn- Open space great for trade shows, craft fairs, kids shows and much more
  • Auditorium – 220 fixed-seat auditorium with a portable sound system and wireless mics available for use
  • Cafeteria –  Paint Night, Cooking Classes, and so much more can work within this space
  • Courtyard –  Open space great for acoustic performances, family picnics and much more!
  • Gymnasium – Primarily used by the Recreation Department for Pickleball. The 204 works with private groups to rent space for health and wellness along with sports conditioning. 
  • Kitchen -Scheduled to come online in 2023
  • Music Room/Greenroom – As a basic room rental this room can accommodate 30 people in a conference style set up. Other options are available. 
  • Creative Suite – Smaller meeting room can accommodate groups up to 15 people. 
  • Library Great Room – Perfect for Art Galleries, Exhibitions, Meetings, Conferences, Trade Show and so much more. Flexible floor plans are available. 
  • Long Term Studio Space – Main Building, first and second floors

One-time or Short Term Event Space Rental

Application required. First-come, first-serve reservations are subject to scheduling availability and approval by the Cultural Affairs Director. Space will not be reserved until a complete application and all fees are received.

  • $100.00 per 3-hour single-use
  • Additional custodial or police & fire detail fees may be required
  • Events may require a certificate of insurance naming the Town of Harwich as an “Additional Insured” for $1,000,000.00
  • 88 parking spaces, including five disability parking spaces; further disability parking spaces may be designated for special events
  • All food and beverage items must adhere to food traceability standards per the Harwich Health Department
  • The Town of Harwich follows all Massachusetts COVID-19 guidelines and/or recommendations, subject to change without notice

Consecutive Class/Workshop Space Rental

We are working to put together a calendar for the 2023 season. The 204 works to provide a wide offering of classes, programs and workshops for all levels. Each class is presented by an artist or maker who has extensive knowledge and skills in the subject that he/she presents. All classes are limited to a certain number of attendees to maximize their learning experience and to benefit the instructor. The 204 strives to provide programming in the areas of visual art, culinary arts, music, literary arts, movement, health and wellness for all ages and abilities. If you are interested in teaching at the 204 and providing your skills to our community we encourage you to complete the form below. 

Your form will be reviewed by the Director of Cultural Affairs. Once reviewed you will receive a notification to discuss your proposal further. As part of our Department, we will help provide some marketing resources and work with you to present your class, workshop or program. We are open to many formats on schedule and offerings. Our fee structure is $15 per class session held. Any fees that you collect as part of your registration are solely yours. A formal contract is created when your class, program, or workshop has been confirmed.

Long Term Studio Rental

Through creative repurposing of the former 78,000 sq. ft. middle school building, the 204 currently has 40 long-term studios. The center is a cooperative effort between the Town and our greatest resource - the creative, local individuals that help to make our town a destination for visitors from around the world. The building provides valuable “launch space” where individuals can actualize their creative gifts and contribute to the local economy.
