Nettie B. by the Sea, Artist & Art Instructor

Come help welcome Nettie Berkeley to the Harwich Cultural Center on Thursday, August 8 between 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Stop into Nettie's Art Studio (Studio 203) for a visit, a little nibble and cool refreshment before the CranFest in the Courtyard! Art Workshops for all ages will be offered at Nettie B. by the Sea for Seniors, Adults, Teens and Children.

Nettie Berkeley is an artist, art instructor, mother, wife, gardener, lover of nature and a certified Kind Yoga teacher. Her interests in all things creative are vast but thinks of herself as a mixed media artist with a passion for Creative Arts. Nettie loves sharing her creativity with others and has been teaching art to people of all ages for two decades. Once settled into her new studio space at the Harwich Cultural Center, she will offer Art Experiences to all ages and announce her workshop and class schedule.

“I have been drawn to the creative arts since I can remember. My art can be messy, colorful, layered and fun.  But most of all, I love the freedom, happiness and excitement I get when I create. I believe others can have this feeling as well as they lose themselves in a creative way allowing self-discovery to nurture and recharge a place within; to bring a sense of wholeness and balance to their lives. I am excited to begin a new chapter, to have a studio at the Harwich Community Center and to be a part of a community where creative energy is cultivated.”

In 2103 The Teen Artists Coalition was born at Sturgis Library; it continues to this day as “TAC on Tour” a roadshow version that Nettie Berkeley brings to Cape Cod Libraries. “TAC” is an Art Enrichment Program specifically for teenagers ages 13-18.  Nettie provides interactive exploration of an artistic skill with academic impact, exposure to different art materials and mediums in a safe, non-judgmental environment. The purpose of keeping this group “teen based” is to provide a space where they can engage with others in their own peer group. This program will be nurtured in its new “home” at the Harwich Cultural Center.

“I believe that everyone has a unique style and desire to create and that we are born curious and creative. Over the years, many of us are discouraged from following our creative urges but I believe it is never too late to begin (or begin again!). I love to encourage my students to draw from their own experience and imagination when creating art and to have the courage to take chances. I love the energy that my students bring to class. I enjoy hearing their stories and guiding them through fear and frustration, reflecting the joy of their experience and cheering them on while they (re)discover their creative voice.

I am looking forward to getting settled in my new Art Studio “Nettie B. by the Sea” at the Harwich Cultural Center. Workshops/Classes (Art Experiences) & drop in times will be designed for kids, teens and adults to study, explore, and create original works of art. The studio will enhance creative idea development and enrich the lives of vacationers as well as year-round residents through instructional, fun art, crafting workshops and classes.”
