THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED

Featuring: Dan Pelletier, Superintendent, Harwich Water Department and Lincoln Hooper, Director, Harwich Highways & Maintenance

Water is life! Understanding how our water is provided to us is important to protecting it. The other end of our consumption cycle is waste. Proper disposal of waste promotes our health!

Dan Pelletier, Superintendent, Harwich Water Department and Lincoln Hooper, Director, Harwich Highways & Maintenance will participate in a community forum on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Harwich Cultural Center.

Dan will discuss municipal water quality and how to read a water quality report, among other topics. Lincoln will provide information on waste disposal, including a discussion of recycling. Both Dan and Lincoln will make 30 minute formal presentations and will take questions from the audience after their prepared remarks.

Harwich Water Department & Transfer Station presentation:  Talking about what they do.

What are the three things necessary for life? Sun, air, and water. Water is a big part of our lives; in Harwich we arguably take our water for granted. Few of us know what goes on to bring us our water. What is involved? Dan Pelletier, Superintendent, Harwich Water Department, will talk about the Department’s role to bring us water all the way from the pump to the tap: history, pumping, filtering, testing, quality, standards, delivery and price. We are lucky to live on the Cape with easy access to water but that also raises the question: what can residents do to protect their local water source?

Pretty much everything we own or touch will eventually be thrown out. But where is out? What happens to all that stuff? Few of us know what goes on to process all of Harwich’s trash and recyclables. What is involved? Come listen to Lincoln Hooper, Director, Harwich Highways & Maintenance in charge with running our transfer station. He will tell us about some of the realities when it comes to throwing things away, telling us some facts: where is ‘away’ and what the costs are. And, also talk about some of the myths about what recycling is and isn’t. Link is an expert. He is the last person to see all the stuff we throw away before it gets trucked off-Cape. We need to know the whole picture and know what “out” is and then perhaps begin to change our behaviors as consumers to become more aware of all the stuff we have.
