Programs

We strive to offer a wide variety of creative programming at the Harwich Council on Aging; educational, social, enrichment, entertainment and more. Please check out our current newsletter for a complete listing of our current activities. The vast majority of our "Special Programs" are offered free of charge - those incurring a fee are clearly marked. Many of our fitness classes do have a fee, though we offer a few at no cost and are hoping to increase these offerings. These classes are also clearly labeled.

If you don't see anything you like, please let us know what topic you're interested in so that we can try to serve you better! We'd also like to hear from you if you have a class you'd like to teach or facilitate. Either way, you can call our office at 508-430-7550 and ask for Julie.

Fitness Classes

  • We offer a wide variety of fitness classes to suit a range of needs. Some classes are free, while others require a fee (between $8-15/class). Classes offered on a rotating basis include Balance Boosters, Chair Yoga, Jill's Exercise Class, Jill's Senior Workout, Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Most classes require registration - call for class times and details or check out our newsletter. If you're not signed up to get our newsletter, call our office at 508-430-7550 or fill out our online registration form HERE
  • Additional fitness classes are provided by the Recreation Department and include Walk and Talk, and Sit and Get Fit. Drop-in, sign in and enjoy moving. Contact the Recreation Office at 508-430-7553 or visit the Recreation website for the schedule.

Senior Dining (Lunch Program)

  • Let us handle the cooking with our Senior Dining Program! Lunches are just $3.00 ($4 for out of town guests). This program is a great place to meet people and not have lunch alone. Senior Dining Luncheons are served Monday through Fridays at 11:30AM. You will need to make a reservation ahead by calling (508) 430-7550, at least 24 hours ahead. Lunches are also available for "Grab & Go" on a limited basis. Call for details!

Menus are available both in the Council on Aging newsletter and at the COA Reception Desk for you to peruse at your leisure. If you have a favorite meal you would like us to try, please don't hesitate to let the Chef Linda St. Pierre or any of our staff know. We are always open to trying new things.

Educational

  • Is there a topic you are looking for more information for or new skill you want to learn? We have first aid and CPR classes, health presentations, Alzheimer's prevention, safety & risk reduction seminars, and more. Let us know what you'd like to learn more about!

Entertainment

  • A range of entertainment can be found at the COA from weekly group game play (Cribbage, Mah Jongg, Chess, Mexican Train Dominoes) to a weekly singing group to monthly movie days.

Special Events

  • Fashion shows, holiday celebrations, themed events, monthly breakfasts, and guest speakers are among the few of many special events we have here throughout the year.

Arts & Enrichment

  • We host local authors, various musical, theatrical, or dance performances, craft workshops, ukulele classes, and more.
