Heather Pilchard will be offering a series of book binding classes in the Creative Suite.

Saturday, February 15 -1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Creative Suite
The first is a decorative paper class and the second one is binding a journal using the paper we make in the first class. It is highly recommended to take them both but not necessary. Paste paper is a very early form of decorative paper from the late 16th century. It was used for covers and papers in books. Contemporary artists have taken this traditional art form and have created new experimental patterns and techniques. Book cloth in bookbinding is especially useful for hinges because a cloth hinge, unlike a paper hinge, stands up to multiple opening and closing of a book. Making your own will give a wider range of color, texture and patterns than can be bought and is less expensive. Please bring 2 pieces of cotton, linen, or silk cloth to class.
$25 All materials included.

The joy of making a Simple Journal is how easy it is to stitch together. We will bind it together with a durable hard cover using colorful book cloth, waxed linen thread and decorative paper. The stitching is visible on the outside of the spine adding another design element to the finished book. We will use the decorative paper and book cloth created in the first class to make a beautiful journal uniquely your own.
$35 All materials included.
