The Harwich Council on Aging is working with Harwich Conservation Trust to get firewood to residents in need! Do you use a wood-based system to heat your home? Would you benefit from a supplemental supply of wood to get you through the winter? The Harwich Conservation Trust (HCT) is partnering with the Council on Aging (COA) to provide firewood from their Pleasant Bay Woodlands property for residents in need. HCT is planning to cut and split the logs of Black Locust wood (a dense, long-burning variety), which have been on the ground for several years and are seasoned, in early December. The wood is available due to an effort focused on controlling invasive plants and restoring meadow habitat. The priority of HCT is to get firewood to those in need. There is no cost for this service. If you participate in this program and would like to make a donation to HCT, their donation page is available here: https://harwichconservationtrust.org/support/, but donations are not required to participate. If you’d like to learn more about this program or sign up to participate, call the COA at 508-430-7550 or email Director Emily Mitchell at emitchell@town.harwich.ma.us.
