MEETING MINUTES  

Monday, June 20, 2016  5:00 p.m.   Pilgrim Church, Harwich Port

In attendance:  Sheila House, Barbara Segal, Julia Eldredge, Brooke Canada, Jim Hartley, Susan Cartmell

• Meeting called to order at 5:03 p.m.
• Approved minutes of the May 2016 meeting. Barbara S. moved and Jim H. seconded.
• Yoga classes after school at the high school were well-attended and many young men took part with encouragement from their coaches. Sheila will look into funding for continuing classes.
• Presentation by Dr. Kevin Hill was attended by 110 people. There was positive feedback about the information he shared, which Sheila shared with local TV stations and juvenile probation.
• Brooke Canada gave us a tour of the church which has multiple spaces in the lower level. Consensus was that a 5^th/6^th grade after school program similar to a drop-in program should be confined in the beginning to one area. Susan C. stated that there should be 2 adult staff. Discussed a range of fees from $8-$15. Students should see the space to (a) see if they are interested in developing a program there, and (b) what types of activities they would participate in. Sheila is going to meet with Scott Carpenter to see if the schools would be willing to generate a survey monkey questionnaire, emailed to parents in the district about a possible drop-in space for 5^th/6^th graders and the level of interest. The church is having open houses in the future and families could be invited to view the space. Sheila will also research existing programs and costs.
