Fire Department Lock Box Information

Harwich Town Code – Section 14-3 Permit and Key Box Required

A. The owner of any building which has a fire alarm system or other fire protection system or medical alarm which transmits an alarm off the premises shall be required to:

1. Have a permit to install or alter the system.

2. Provide a secure key box installed in a location accessible to the Fire Department in case of emergency. The key box shall contain keys to the door(s) and fire alarm control panel and any other keys necessary to operate or service fire protection or medical systems. The key box shall be a type approved by the Chief of the Harwich Fire Department and shall be located and installed as approved by the Chief.

B. Any building owner violating this bylaw after receiving due notice by the Fire Department shall be subject to a fine of $100. Owners of existing systems will have six months after adoption of this bylaw to bring their premises up to code.

Ordering a Lockbox 

Kidde has moved to the online ordering method in order to be fully compliant with industry security and privacy protocols for the protection of customer information, and to provide faster secure order processing. The Department uses Rapid Entry Lock boxes by Kidde. These Lock boxes are specifically designed to be used by the Harwich Fire Department.

A box will come up for you to Select a Fire Department.

Type: Harwich Fire, click on: MA – HARWICH – HARWICH FIRE DEPT

Click: Continue

Scrolling to the bottom of the screen will show Supra Max and the Supra S5(Most Common) Lock boxes.   These are used for residential use. On the top left side of the screen clicking on Rapid Entry Key Lock Boxes will bring up Lock boxes that are used for commercial applications. SupraSafe 2HS and 2HSR(needs to be installed by building owner) can carry up to 13 keys.

Completing the purchase:  

Add the desired Lock box to your cart.

Create an account, top right of the website

Hover over the “Shopping Cart”, top right and click on “Checkout” Follow the prompts.

Once the Lock box arrives, please call the Fire Department for installation. We will need a spare key to place in the box.
