Preliminary proceedings for the purchase of land for a cemetery in the vicinity of Harwich Port were started January 24, 1860, and completed March 13, 1860, when an association was formed and 1 ½ acres of land known then as Mill Hill was purchased from Obed Brooks, Esq. On March 17, 1860 by-laws were accepted and the group was called "Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association ". Since August 26, 1991, this has been known as the "Harwich Port Cemetery Association ."
